I have always had this fear of the ocean. When i was younger, I would hide underneath the car seat whenever my parents drove through Gurney Drive. Just pitch black endless sea of nothingness. Taking up scuba diving, is definitely me facing my fears.
Two confined water sessions and a few mental preps later, we headed for Tioman for our SDI open water certification.
It was an estimated 5 hours drive from KL to Terminal Feri Tg Gemok. From there, its a 2 hours boat ride to Tioman. Be prepared for sea sickness/motion sickness as the waves would have no mercy on the tiny ferry,depending on when you go. Late October til early March is the North East Monsoon season and its not advisable to go to the east coast, Tioman included, during that time. We went almost towards the end of October, and in the belly of the small ferry, there was an orchestra of Rhythm of The Seasick 😉
The first shore entry was nerve wrecking. But let me tell you this, when I get to see the colorful lifeforms on the ocean bed, all my fears of underwater world dropped down a few levels.
Boat dive was even better! We took a boat out to Pulau Sembilang and even from the boat we could see the complex coral structures. Back roll, prep up, And down we go. Equalizing is much easier in the sea compared to swimming pool which is excellent.

Next dive would definitely be with a waterproof camera! Time to study the market & invest on a good one! Would love to hear your suggestions.
